vs. Kilmarnock. Saturday 31 October 11 A.M.

Celtic return to league action tomorrow against Kilmarnock at 11 A.M.  The match will be played at Celtic Park where Kilmarnock have not won in 232 years or so (note: may not be accurate).

Celtic come in to the match off of a less than inspirational midweek match that saw Celtic fall out of the CIS Cup 1-0 to Hearts.  Previous to that Celtic beat Hamilton 2-0.  Celtic currently reside atop the league with 20 points out of 9 matches while Kilmarnock are in 8th place with 9 points from 9 matches.  Much like Hearts but with a better goal difference.  Kilmarnock are also coming off of a 2-1 victory over St. Johnstone last weekend.

Injuries and suspensions are now a major concern for Celtic as Marc-Antoine Fortune and Glenn Loovens look to return to action but Stephen McManus (red card), Shaun Maloney (achilles), Scott Brown (ankle) all will be out (or are out as of this writing) and Artur Boruc (hamstring)  is not projected to play.

In a little international action, Celtic’s wonderkid Islam Feruz scored the only goal of the match in a 1-0 win over Wales for the Scotland U-16s.

I hope to see everyone tomorrow for the fun and games of another Celtic match!

vs Hearts. Wednesday 28 October, 3:35 P.M.

Celtic move to take on Hearts in a CIS Cup match tomorrow at Celtic Park at 3:35 P.M.

In their latest action this previous weekend, Celtic beat Hamilton away in a 2-1 match while Hearts drew with a plucky Falkirk side 0-0.

The Hamilton match saw the return of Andreas Hinkel to action while Danny Fox remained on the sideline from his injury picked up on international duty. Also reported as returned to full strength is Marc-Antoine Fortune who did not participate on Sunday. Hearts continue to underperform in the league while Celtic are once again residing at, for lack of a better term, at the top of the heap after Administration F.C. drew 0-0.

Of course, all of that is league action and not Cup action and those can be two rather different things (see last year’s 7-0 blitz followed by a 1-0 loss the following week).

And if you’ve been paying attention (and I hope you have), a certain blue (and orange) team appears to be falling apart faster than a house made with Chinese drywall. All players and fixtures are now for sale and the debt is currently claimed to be around 30 million pounds. Depending on how much additional debt is buried in Murray Interational Holdings, this number could be quite bigger. Also, their second largest shareholder has his shares frozen and is on the run in South Africa on several HUNDRED counts of fraud.

If you have not read his latest missive, ace reporter Chick Young (and not a close personal friend of David Murray or Administration F.C.) wrote a lovely piece of prose that almost had my monitor crying. Tears of mirth mind you, but still. Look it up. It is worth a laugh.

So, if you will be attending tomorrow’s match it will be available on Setanta 2. I will not be in attendance, but would be most appreciative if someone is going to collect cover for the club.

vs. Hamilton. Sunday 25 October 8:30 A.M.

Well. . . .

Since the clocks move back an hour earlier in the UK than in the US, the match will be an hour later here. Celtic face off against Hamilton in an away match that could easily be classified “must win”. Celtic come in to the match in second place behind the wretched pile of scum and villainy and will looking to gain points this weekend.

No major injuries reported for Celtic at this time. Which is either good or bad, depending on your opinions about certain players.

I hope to see everyone there bright and early Sunday morning for what hopes to be something other than the recent form!

vs. Hamburger SV. Thursday, 22 October 3:05 P.M.

Celtic return to Europa League action against Hamburger SV this Thursday. Hamburg currently reside in 2nd place in Group C with 3 points. Celtic are holding down the basement with only a single point from the draw with Rapid Vienna at Celtic Park.

On the injury news front, Andreas Hinkel is hoping to return to action for the cause this Thursday while Hamburg is still being bit by the injury bug. Players including Mladen Petric, Paolo Guerrero, Alex Silva, Collin Benjamin, Bastian Reinhardt, Miroslav Stepanek, Marcell Jansen and Romeo Castelen all appear to be scratches for Thursday’s match. Let us see if Celtic can begin the process of turning things around in this Europa League match.

Marcus Berg, striker for Hamburg has begun the smack-talk by stating: “You have more respect for the arena than the team.

“Celtic do not have the players they had a couple of years ago and now make their signings from Division One in England.

“Celtic are not what they used to be and are on their way down.”

In transfer gossip news, Celtic appear to be tailing both Sheffield United defender Matthew Kilgallon and French winger Olivier Thomert for acquisition in January. Do what you will with that information.

And in what could only be deemed good news, at the time of this writing the huns are getting slaughtered at home 4-1 by a Romanian team named Unirea Urziceni.

vs. Motherwell. Saturday, 17 October. 10:00 A.M.

International break. That magic time when everyone takes a breath, holds back from making irrational and sometimes threatening comments about players, managers, the board and occasionally each other.

Celtic return to action this Saturday atop the SPL leaderboard with 16 points from 7 games. Most recently Celtic were utterly shafted, er, were not victorious against the huns in a 2-1 loss at Ibrox. Our opponents, Motherwell, reside in 5th place with 12 points from the same 7 games. In Motherwell’s last match they came out 1-0 winners against Falkirk.

Motherwell seem to be appreciably hit by the same injury bug that haunts Celtic on occasion with 4 players out via injury. On the Celtic side injuries do not appear to be a problem but Celtic will be without Glenn Loovens as he serves a one game suspension from a questionable tackle during a match last year. This leaves the defensive pairing to be, well, frightening but what combo back there has not caused fear to fans of the Hoops.

I hope to see everyone there Saturday for a hopefully rollicking good time against Motherwell at home. Could this be just the tonic we need going into a major match against Hamburger SV? Come Saturday and see.
