vs. Falkirk. Sunday, 7 March. 8:15 A.M.

Celtic face off against a former player and current manager of Falkirk, Steven Pressley this Sunday at quarter past 8.

Celtic are coming in to the match with a variety of injuries and suspensions, including Shaun Maloney, Diomansy Kamara (injured in international duty), Jos Hooiveld, Thomas Rogne, Scott Brown (suspended and red card not overturned) and Glenn Loovens.

A request was put in to have the pitch inspected at Falkirk to make sure the Scottish Under-21 match did not cause any undue destruction. Scotland, however, has been suffering from the same thing Columbus has - a complete and utter lack of sunlight. This obviously makes growing grass and plants problematic.

Even though to this point this season has not turned out the way we’ve hoped, let’s turn out and support the Bhoys this Sunday!

vs. Motherwell. Saturday, 12 December 7:45 A.M.

Celtic face off against 5th place Motherwell at Fir Park this Saturday at 7:45 A.M. Celtic are working on a 3 game winning streak and bring no new injuries to the match. Motherwell, however are somewhat injury plagued as Shaun Hutchinson, Chris Humphrey, Marc Fitzpatrick, Darren Smith and Paul Slane are all out. They are coming off of a 2-0 loss to Hibs last weekend.

Outside of the match, Celtic have been linked with everyone with a pulse, taken several teams worth of trialists on and the Motherwell manager, Jim Gannon, has risen amazingly high in my estimation via his mid-week rant against Hugh “The Golden Apron” Dallas and Scottish refereeing in general. His statement, “Dallas had to defend the referee because the result of the game might have been different if he’d got his decisions correct at Ibrox.

“Celtic might look back on that result at the end of the season and decide that Ibrox in October is when they lost the league championship.

“There’s a question mark over the standard of refereeing in Scotland and the mistakes that are being made are having an effect on the league table.” has made me quite proud. Well done, sir.

Yes, it is cold and it’ll be early, but I’d love to see everyone there for an entertaining match.

vs Hearts. Wednesday 28 October, 3:35 P.M.

Celtic move to take on Hearts in a CIS Cup match tomorrow at Celtic Park at 3:35 P.M.

In their latest action this previous weekend, Celtic beat Hamilton away in a 2-1 match while Hearts drew with a plucky Falkirk side 0-0.

The Hamilton match saw the return of Andreas Hinkel to action while Danny Fox remained on the sideline from his injury picked up on international duty. Also reported as returned to full strength is Marc-Antoine Fortune who did not participate on Sunday. Hearts continue to underperform in the league while Celtic are once again residing at, for lack of a better term, at the top of the heap after Administration F.C. drew 0-0.

Of course, all of that is league action and not Cup action and those can be two rather different things (see last year’s 7-0 blitz followed by a 1-0 loss the following week).

And if you’ve been paying attention (and I hope you have), a certain blue (and orange) team appears to be falling apart faster than a house made with Chinese drywall. All players and fixtures are now for sale and the debt is currently claimed to be around 30 million pounds. Depending on how much additional debt is buried in Murray Interational Holdings, this number could be quite bigger. Also, their second largest shareholder has his shares frozen and is on the run in South Africa on several HUNDRED counts of fraud.

If you have not read his latest missive, ace reporter Chick Young (and not a close personal friend of David Murray or Administration F.C.) wrote a lovely piece of prose that almost had my monitor crying. Tears of mirth mind you, but still. Look it up. It is worth a laugh.

So, if you will be attending tomorrow’s match it will be available on Setanta 2. I will not be in attendance, but would be most appreciative if someone is going to collect cover for the club.

May

vs. Hibernian. Sunday, 17 May. 8:00 A.M.

So, anything big happen since our last chat?

Celtic have regained the top spot due to some lovely play in the first half and a butt-clenchingly tight second half against Dundee United in a 2-1 victory at Celtic Park. At Ipox the huns drew 1-1 with Hibs due to a strike from Deek Riordan, knocking them in to second.

So onto the match. Celtic will travel to Edinburgh to play at Easter Road at 8:00 A.M. While Celtic remain in the top spot, it is by a razor thin goal difference of +2. For those of you who remember 2003, goal difference can be key. Right, Dunfirmline? Hibs are currently 6th on the table and can rise as high as 5th or as low as 7th this season. The Bhoys will also know where they stand on the table as a very, very angry Aberdeen team face off against the huns Saturday morning at 7:30 A.M. By Sunday morning all should be clear again.

In Celtic news, the club announced that three players will not return to play this season - Stephen McManus, Barry Robson and Mark Wilson.

If you would please take a moment and remember that one year ago today Tommy Burns passed on.

The James McCarthy to Celtic goes on for the third year in a row. He’ll be close to retirement if/when he signs for the Hoops.

And from the “Only a hun” file, this ditty:

“Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot was taken to hospital after an egg he was microwaving exploded in his face.

The 25-year-old Scotland international was poaching the egg at his home near Mauchline, Ayrshire, when the accident happened.

It is understood hot liquid squirted onto his face and scalded his cheek when he opened the microwave door.

The footballer was treated in hospital, before being allowed to go home following the incident on Sunday.”

Lesson, kids? Don’t microwave eggs and don’t be a hun.

Hope to see you all Sunday morning!

Apr

vs Hearts. Saturday 11 April, 7:30 A.M.

The quest for SPL supremacy continues with Celtic facing off against Hearts this Saturday at 7:30 A.M. Celtic maintained their run of good form by defeating bottom of the league Falkirk 4-0 on Wednesday. Goals from Caldwell, JVoH, McGeady and O’Dea sealed in a hard fought victory that could have been much, much worse for Falkirk had the bar been that much higher. The game also saw many hard tackles and collisions for all involved, including one that left Georgios Samaras on the mend for at least this week with a hip issue.

Celtic remain top of the league and extend the goal difference with 70 points and a goal difference of 43 while our closest competitors have 67 points and a goal difference of 39. Hearts are sitting in 3rd place with 52 points.

While Celtic had a midweek match (for better or worse), Hearts last played on 4 April, beating Kilmarnock 3-1 with a pair from Elliot and one from Aguiar.

This is a big match (although they all are this time of year) as it is both away and against some good competition. Let us hope that our run of 4-0 results continues at the expense of the Jambos.

In utterly non-Celtic related news, the gruesome twosome did not play on Wednesday in their 2-1 victory over St. Mirren and may have finished their run for scum f.c.

Apr

vs Falkirk. Wednesday, 8 April 2:45 P.M.

Celtic return to action in a midweek match at Celtic Park against Falkirk at 2:45 P.M. Celtic, who are currently topping the table with 67 points from 30 matches play the bottom of the league Falkirk who have 27 points from the same 30 games.

Celtic returned to their winning ways in a 4-0 victory against Hamilton this past Saturday. Another big return was strikers not named McDonald scoring for Celtic. Georgios Samaras bagged a double while JVoH notched his goal after substituting for Scott McDonald.

Falkirk have to be disappointed after outshooting their opponents with their 1-0 loss to the huns from a Boyd goal at 9 minutes.

The huns will be traveling to St. Mirren at the same time on Wednesday. I know two people who will not be making the trip, however. Discussions exist on whether leaving the “Two right up ye” boys out of the lineup is a good thing or a bad thing.

And a big congratulations to Scott McDonald for his winning SPL’s Player of the Month for March. The other awards went to Mixu Paatelainen (Manager) of Hibs and Steven Fletcher (Young Player), also of Hibs. With the possible, or as some pray, eventual departure of Big Jan, Fletcher continues to be linked with Celtic.

I hope to see some bright, shining faces there on a Wednesday that appears to have some improved weather!

vs. St. Mirren. Saturday 7 March, 7:15 A.M.

And welcome back to the top, Celtic.

Celtic face off against St. Mirren for the second weekend in a row this Saturday in FA Cup action. On the previous Saturday Celtic dismantled St. Mirren with a 7-0 outpouring of goals. This match is at St. Mirren this time around but one can only hope for a similar result.

As for the league, Celtic sit atop the league with 63 points from 28 games after a 2-1 win over Kilmarnock Wednesday afternoon paired with a 1-0 huns loss to ICT on an injury time penalty (properly) called against David Weir. St. Mirren lie in 10th with 29 points from the same 28 games and drew with Aberdeen 1-1.

I have confirmed with Tom that they WILL be open for business at this ungodly early hour. Cup action against a team we just spanked at the earliest time we will face all year? Of course you’ll be there! Why not?

Feb

vs the huns. Sunday, 15 February. 7:30 A.M.

So. . .whatcha doing Sunday morning?

If it isn’t this, then an intervention might be required. So this Sunday, with a 2 point lead over the huns after 24 matches, the Bhoys face off against the ugly 11.

The huns last league match was against a completely exhausted Dundee United who they beat 2-0 after some assistance from the MIB. Well, decide for yourself, but this smacks of 2003 all over again. Craig Levein, who I absolutely am a fan of, continued his tirade against the treatment the huns are being given at the expense of his club.

Celtic were given a shock 0-0 draw against Inverness CT who we seemingly play like crap against every time we face each other.

Leading up to the huns visit to Celtic Park have been the usual news stories; a crisis at Celtic (oh no! A black eye!), injuries that are regularly overestimated and comments galore taken completely out of context. Of course per the press the huns are out curing cancer, feeding the poor and having this:

“RANGERS’ new pitch is the envy of the Premiership as several leading English clubs have gathered in Glasgow to look at the state-of-the-art Ibrox surface.”

Now call me paranoid, but any bets the next time we have to enter Ibrox it is going to be sopping wet and rutted like someone ran a four-wheeler over it.

So I don’t need to mention to be there, I know you will. I hope everyone can walk out with a bigger smile than they bring in.

Jan

vs. Inverness CT. Sunday 1 February, 9:00 A.M.

Wow. Simply wow.

Well, if you watched yesterday’s 11-10 shootout win over a very game Dundee United team, you’re probably just getting over the mild heart attack you suffered.

With Celtic’s place in the CIS cup final against The Greater Manchester Police’s Wanted Top 11, the focus returns to the league where Celtic face off against Inverness Caledonian Thistle this Sunday at 9:00 A.M. Travel to Inverness has always been a bit of an issue for Celtic as they seem not to play their best up on the North Sea, but with back-to-back wins this may be a portent of a return to form.

For those of you who remember, last Saturday Celtic beat Hibernian 3-1 off of a double from Scott McDonald and a goal from Stephen McManus (who was injured in the match). Celtic could have and possibly should have been up 5-0 within the first ten minutes but the victory was well deserved. Inverness will be entering the game off of a 3-2 loss to Hearts. With their 12th place position getting 17 points from 23 games, Terry Butcher and Maurice Malpas take over as manager and assistant manager, respectively. Celtic remain in first place with 54 points from 23 matches.

The huns will be playing Saturday against a very, very angry Dundee United team, so Celtic will know where they stand (or fall) before our match on Sunday. Let’s hope for the best.

After this weekend Celtic will be facing off against the oldest club in Scotland (Queen’s Park) on the 7th and then scum F.C. on the 15th.

I hope to see everyone there this Sunday!
